About Brela - General Information about Brela in Dalmatia - Croatia

Brela has a population of 1500 inhabitants. It is situated 15 km north-western of Makarska, on the steep Biokovo foothill where it was rised at the site of Roman settlements.

Brela is a spring of beauty because of its natural features: a thick pine wood, long pebbly beaches, clear sea and water springs. It has been known as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Croatia and one of the most attractive Dalmation tourist spot for several centuries.

It is the winner of the European ecological award "Blue flag" for years 1999-2002.

There is a small marina to harbor boats and yachts as well as top service in luxurious hotels and accommodations. With the arrival of the population from villages at the foot of Biokovo in more recent times was raised today's settlement.

There is the church of Our Lady of Karmel, a significant monument of architecture from the 18th century, the parish church of St. Stjepan from the 19th century and a medieval necropolis in the graveyard - today an archeological park - with eight tombstones decorated with reliefs.
